“Watership Down” Hazel’s Hlessil Production Cel and Background (1978) - ID: jun26020

A production cel and background setup from the Nepenthe Studios animated cult classic "Watership Down" (1978). Featuring Hazel, Blackberry, Fiver, Dandelion, and Pipkin, the hand-painted cel and background were created at the studio and used during the animation process. All of the layers are actual frames of animation that were photographed and appear in the film. The character cels are all seen at about 38:44 when they hear Captain Holly’s voice. The background appears just a few seconds early at about 38:39 when the rabbits first approach the voice following Bigwig. Measuring 10.25”x13” overall, with the character image area measuring 6”x6.5”, the setup is in very good condition with light edge and corner wear overall, some adhesive tape along the edges of the background, slight line fade on the whiskers, and minor stains on backside of the background.
