A rare scene cel inspired by the Jay Ward Studios cartoon "Dudley Do-Right" (1961-1970). Featuring Dudley Do-Right about to bop Snidely Whiplash on the head with a mallet for tying up the beautiful Nell Fenwick, the hand-painted cel was not used during production, but was made to order at Jay Ward's Sunset Blvd Studio. The scene cels were created by Ward or his wife, with this one likely in the 1970s based on the original mat, and more modern cels being dated. Jay Ward signed the cel in black ink to the bottom middle edge. Measuring 10"x13" overall, with the character image measuring 5.75"x8.5" in a 7"x9" mat opening, the piece is in very good condition with age-related warping and slight surface wear to the completely restored cel, and age-related discoloration and staining to the original mat.
